Tree Survival Check in August 2022 (after the drought)
Dec 1st 2020..Tree Planting
Rectorty Road Tree Planting November 2021
Nik explains to many new volunteers what the overall aim is (sorry about the poor sound quality). At the end of his intro the method of planting was explained. This was in December 2021 on a great sunny day and I hope by now some of the fruits of all the great volunteers work is beginiing to show.
January 2022. Yes , even when it poured we planted more trees
2023… A great start to the year and a happy crew descended on Rectory Road Farm
Thick mud didn’t deter the volunteers at Rectory Road in January 2022
…also in January’22. A group of volunteers assisted in clearing water flow at Boxers lake
Always a pleasure to walk alone along the wonderful new path. No traffic noise..no pollution and time to refresh oneself. This was in March 2022
In June ’22 ..wonderful weather made ‘Balsam Bashing’ almost a pleasure. We hope it made a difference and later visits showed no trace of its return in the areas we cleared
Our inaugral walk in was a great success.
This is the crew planning the walk
All the great folk who came along really enjoyed it and we are currently planning a spring and autumn walk so watch this space and make a note in your diaries to join us…You will be most welcome
Beavers living happily in Enfield?? Yes…a group of great volunteers joined forces and removed wooden fence posts coated in creosote that would have harmed the beavers. Then came the slow and tricky job of removing redundant fencing rolling it safely for later removal in preparation for the new enclosure to be erected. After the sad demise of the male (no jokes please) apparently a substitute has put himself forward and we are eagerly awaiting results. (We did see lots of praise going to various people but very little to the team of hardworking volunters so “WELL DONE ALL OF YOU, and many thanks…the unsung heroes!)
…DAY TWO (Beavers)
Pond Edge Planting – in Oakwood Park. The ponds (cells) from the top of the hill were carefully planned to harmonise in time and add a beauty to the lovely park. They are connected by meandering gullies . Together with the ‘scrapes’ (smallar shallow ponds) they will prevent flood water racing down the hill and proving too much for the brook to cope with These cells slow the water and we carefully introduced aquatic water margin species which, besides looking beautiful, will, in time, filter out the street and other pollutants ending at the lower part of the hill as clear water.
This is after the rain filled the ponds
Albany Park in October 2021. Volunteers , after completing a litter pick then donned waders and cleaned up an area that had been neglected.
4th January 2022. Clearing fences and ‘stumpie’ building at Botany Bay. Once we cleared some heavy undergrowth some hiding places were required for insects such as stag beetles and rodents and random wooden shelter proved excellent for this purpose.
